Depression can be just a mood for a few days, or it can be a major depressive disorder. The mental disorder is described as having at least two consecutive weeks of low mood that is present in almost any situation. But there are always some depression signs you should be on the lookout for.
A lot of the times it comes with low self-esteem, loss of interest in things the person would usually enjoy, and having overall low energy.
When it comes to spotting depression, it’s always the earlier the better.
There are a few things that people do when they’re depressed that might seem a little random, and this list will help you stay on the lookout. If you have 4 or more of these symptoms you should consult your doctor or a therapist.
1. Shopping Sprees
If you’re shopping out of control and spending a ton of money on yourself, it might be a side effect of being depressed. Some people who are depressed like to do a lot of compulsive buying to act as a distraction or a way to boost their self-esteem.
This type of “retail therapy” is usually short-lived, and it doesn’t really help the underlying depression. Shopping sprees can also be a sign of mania in bipolar disorder.
